Work well when there is no power issue. Jan 23, 2007
By championgala I'm quite happy that I don't seem to have the USB2.0 installation problem posted in another review. This adapter works plug-n-play. The transfering speed shows a USB2.0 speed, about 2 mins to transfer around 900MB data.
Not quite happy about:
1. After plug in this adapter, my existing USB ports sometimes fail to be recognized as USB2.0. But since they're not too stable already (my main reason to buy this adapter) and about to die, I don't care too much.
2. It only works with flash mem, mouse, and maybe other devices that don't drain much power. It refuses to take any of my external USB HDs. The included power cable doesn't work for me. According to some description I found online, that cable is used to get power from PS/2 port, which is not quite common to be found in nowadays laptops.

Great Value, but difficult install Jan 28, 2004

I was pleased with the product in terms of what it offered and the price, but when it came time to install, that was a different story. XP did not recognize it as a 2.0 device, it wanted to use the generic 1.0 drivers, thus 1.0 speed. I had to manually update the driver and pick from a list with the hit-and-miss method - an automatic search would not find it. I have finally got it to recognize the device correctly, but have not tested to see if it meets 2.0 bandwidth yet.I would go for a major brand next time.

Not enough power for external HDD drives May 12, 2007
By A. Thomas Would not power my 160GB WD external drive, even when this card is powered via the PS2 port on my 3yr old Dell notebook. Is it the card? is it the notebook? I don't know, but I know this item is sitting around un-used, along with my 160GB hard drive. I'd suggest a) going with a better solution, whatever that may be and 2) return the device asap if it does work!

It works. Oct 18, 2007

This worked perfectly on my Inspiron 4100. However, it's not that sturdy. And, because of how far it sticks out of the side of the laptop, it's easy to put pressure on it and break it, especially if you like to use your laptop on your lap instead of on a table or desk.
