High Quality 3M Product Aug 14, 2002
I had to visit the 3m website to find out more info. on this product. They had a chart and some info. The info. I was looking for was how much privacy was given. The only privacy built into this screen is for people trying to view from you right side or your left side. It gives them that black viewing screen. People directly behind you can read and see all of what your working on your computer. I find this to be a bit over priced. But with the free shipping I got at time of purchased made it worthwhile. Not enough of these privacy screens could be found at local office supply stores. Their catalogs were pricey! And not much info to go on either. Amazon should of put in their editorial in as well as the 3M description. On what and how these privacy screens work. (Percentage of screen info is filtered out of prying eyes.) Since their are quite a few type of privacy screens out their to choose from. This screen is number PF500XL. It hooks over the top of the computer which is adjustable.

Helps with the privacy issue, but could be a lot better Mar 08, 2007

We recently got these privacy screens where I work. The first problem was with fit: I have a Dell 17" flat screen, and although this product is supposed to fit a 16-18" monitor, it is an awkward match at best. The little tabs on the side of the screen that hang over your monitor are placed a bit too far apart to comfortably work with my monitor, so as a result, they wind up half on, half off. Furthermore, the tabs are supposed to move up and down to position the privacy screen at different heights, but they won't lock into the highest height position (which is where I need mine placed). In general, the screen just seems unstable and ill-fitting.
Then there is the privacy issue itself. If I place myself just to the left or the right of my monitor (ie, so my right shoulder lines up with the left edge or vice versa), I can still see about 2/3 of the screen; I have to move another foot or so away before the entire screen goes black. Similarly, when I stand up and look down on the monitor, I can still read it clearly as long as I am standing directly in front of it (even though I am above eye level). Therefore, someone walking up behind me and standing over my shoulder can easily see my screen--not ideal for privacy issues.
Overall, this expensive privacy filter offers some improvement in privacy, but it certainly does not solve the problem, and the design could definitely stand some improvement.

Works well but cuts down on screen brightness Jun 16, 2008
By Henri Defarge This product works as advertised. Unless looking straight on, the computer screen can't be seen. My only concern was that the filter does cut down on the screen brightness, but that is a minor complaint as it took only a few minutes to get used to that. It provides excellent privacy for a computer screen.
Does what it is supposed to do....mostly. Aug 16, 2010
By Ricardo Based on price alone, I would never buy anything like this as what I work on does not require that level of security. However, when a co-worker left one behind when he quit the company, I decided to give it a try.
It is very effective in "blacking out" the screen from anyone not looking directly at it. The further to the side one views the screen, the more blacked out it becomes. It really is quite effective if you need this kind of thing. It does darken the screen somewhat even when looking straight on. Not so much as to become a problem, but enough to be an annoyance.
My only complaint is that it's difficult to clean. Every cleaner I've tried leaves annoying streaks. If anyone has a suggestion as to how to get rid of the streaks, I would very much like to hear it.
As I mentioned above, this is a pricey item and probably isn't worth the money unless you really need the security.
