Best 8 slot AA/AAA charger I have found Nov 09, 2009
By T. Seedig The best 8 slot charger that I have found for AA/AAA batteries. it does all that it claims and it is easy to find a car cigarette lighter adapter for it (no voltage reduction needed). The transformer output is 12 volt 1.3 amps and has a positive center on the connector. This made it great for mounting in my travel trailer and plugging it into the 12 volt accessory plug by the TV so it can run right off the trailers batteries.
8 slots is great for my metal detectors batteries since both use 8 AA batteries. Also the back light makes it easy to see at what state the batteries are and the discharge charge feature helps keep your batteries working their best (suggested use is once every 5th recharge for NiCD and once every 10th recharge for NiMH). I forgot where I read that but there it is anyway.
When a battery is fully charged the battery indicator will stay solid. When a battery's voltage is below 0.5 volts the battery indicator will show full BUT will flash on and off and it won't charge it. Below is how I bring mine back up enough to get them to start taking a charge.
I resurrect completely dead batteries by holding small strips of aluminum foil to a good battery and a dead battery at the same time for about 1 minute then sliding the dead one in a charger while still holding them together and continuing holding them for about 30 more seconds before removing the good battery from the connection. Positive to positive ++ and negative to negative --. Dull side of the foil to the battery connections.
Another way is to put a good one in with a bad one in an old rapid charger that puts 2 batteries in a row stacked -+-+. Letting them charge for 30 minutes to 1 hour before removing the dead one and putting it in a the smart charger.
Only thing I had go wrong was when removing the decals from the displays one of the clear plastic covers came off with the decal but I just pressed it back on. No real problem.
Now if you don't need or want 8 slots and just want the best AA/AAA charger then take a look at the 4 slot "La Crosse Technology BC-9009 AlphaPower Battery Charger" which has features which this one lacks (especially useful for refreshing NiCD batteries) and finding out just how many mAh's a battery holds.

Great little charger Oct 03, 2008

Works as advertised. The graphic display showing charging status is especially helpful. As I write this, I am using the battery discharge function for the first time to see if I can get more life after recharge from some of my older batteries. The unit came with extra batteries. Not impressed with the quality of the batteries, but very pleased with the charger. Charges AA and AAA.

Maybe missing a key feature Jul 11, 2011
By nylok I use a lot of aa rechargeable batteries and chargers. I am about 99% sure that this charger has no auto shut off feature. The batteries stay warm in it for days after they have completed charging suggesting that it is infinitely trickle charging. This is not good it can damage your batteries. I can't find any claims on Ultra's part that the charger does include an auto shutoff to prevent battery damage.

Battery Charger Jan 10, 2011
By baysideufl This is a fantastic battery charger. It couldn't be easier to use and it works. Just pop the batteries in and they charge. Each battery slot is individually controlled so you don't have to charge batteries in pairs or groups AND each battery doesn't get over charged. Also, once you put the batteries in it has a button to fully discharge before charging. The one downside is that the discharge button controls 4 slots, so you have to make sure that you want discharge all of the batteries that are in there. But it's a very minor issue because again each slot is individually controlled so if one battery finishes discharging it doesn't have to wait for the others to finish before it starts charging. Also, you could start the one that you want to discharge and then pop in the ones that you don't want to discharge after you've pushed the button.
Anyways, I recommend this charger.

Decent Charger Oct 05, 2011
By Bunnly Lives up to its promise. Not the fastest charger out there, but I do like the discharge feature and "nonchargeable" indicator. The batteries that come include are great. Long lasting and hold their charge for quite a while after being taken out of the charger. My only complaint is the display is very bright, not so awesome considering I have this in my bedroom. But it's easy enough to toss a t-shirt over the unit at night.
