Very Sturdy Mar 18, 2008
By D_Strasse

The unit is big, bigger than my old Tripp Lite Isobar6; wider and deeper but also less tall. The Tripp Lite was my old standard for sold construction and this APC unit has the same heft and metal construction. I was shocked to see how big the unit actually is; It feels very solidly built.
Additionally, it has specially marked digital or analog filtering receptacles as well at two for high draw units (receiver and amp). And 10 plugs will leave me plenty of room for the HT system to "grow".
I like the fact that power cords plug into the back plate of the unit. That features reduces the clutter under the TV by eliminating the "hair-plug" look of all the power cord sticking up into the air. Additionally, the blue leds are not overly bright.
As for whether Power Conditioning is more reality than gimmick, I will not comment. I don't seem to have any noise issues in my system, so for me, the APC was intended to deliver peace of mind without adversely affecting the performance of my gear. It does this in spades.
The APC unit is solid, well-built and UL rated for safety. It comes with many recommendations from audio reviewers and is a respected name in the industry.
And while it may be overkill for some, spending a few extra dollars to protect a couple thousand dollars in audio/video equipment just seemed worth it. The only reason for 4 stars is because I haven't yet experienced a surge or dealt with APC's customer service department.

Great Value, Great Equipment Sep 30, 2008
By J. Wren The APC is a heavy duty piece of equipment. Unlike the power strips, this thing is more of a component than anything. It is easy to use, has multiple (10) connection points for components and cable/dish jacks to boot. The APC solved a problem of IM that I have had for several years. I always had to disconnect the cable TV when using the Power Amp due to a 60 cycle hum. NO MORE. Problem solved with all of the filtering.

APC Power Filter Jun 11, 2008
By Bike Boy The APC AVC5 Power Filter has plenty of power sockets and coax connections to provide surge suppression for a home theater system. The unit is fairly large with easy to see status lights. The black finish is unobtrusive on a dark rug or floor. It is designed to sit on a floor or shelf and does not have features to allow easy mounting on a wall. Overall a classy looking surge surpressor.

Fantastic! Dec 03, 2010
By JDUB I love this device. It works perfectly. I have bought three of them for around the house. It is not only stylish, it is quite effective. I had a bad surge in an apartment that I was living in about 2 years ago. It fried my modem, router, and two AC Adapters that were plugged into various outlets on the same circuit as my home theater. The other surge protectors not only fried, but they also allowed my components to go down with them. The C5BLK not only protected my home theater, but also continued working like nothing had happened. Please note that I said these were all plugged into the same electrical circuit; I also confirmed that the C5BLK was in the middle of the circuit, so the surge did pass right by it.

Great for power protection. Jan 21, 2012
By L. Conrado Barajas Pedraza In summary, it is an excellent product for protection, but filtering, I doubt it. keep reading: To be honest I didn't noticed any improvement in sound or image with or without this, I hope my system survives the next thunderstorm and with that I'm happy. I'm giving it 4 stars because I tried to fool it with a 3-2 prong adapter and connecting it with reversed polarity and it detected that the wiring was bad and also the ground. So, I trust this can bring security to your entertainment system. BUT, again, filtering??? not that I can tell. In fact my sub has a very low 60 hz "humm" that you can hear only if you are 6 inches or closer from the subwoofer (Martin Logan MLT-2) (i have 2 subwoofers, same model, different serial numer and both have the noise) and my speakers from the receiver (Denon) have it too but you must put your ear straight to the speaker and cover your other ear to hear the "humm". There's no way you can tell it's humming from the main seating area. Maybe it's impossible to get rid of that just because it uses 60hz AC power. To double check that, I bought a second power filter (Belkin PF30) which has a lot of good reviews stating that they got real improvements in sound and picture but... it is the same story in here, the noise is the same than connected to the power outlet without any fitler. And just in case you are asking... the noise doesn't get louder when I raise the volume of any of them, the subs or the receiver. It looks really nice, it feels solid, plugs get ther really tight, it feels professional. I recommend this product but dont expect magic, just power protection. Regards, Luis.
