Works as advertised for a bargain price Sep 12, 2009
By Ewan Grantham Bought this card so I could have some Firewire 800 ports for a couple 2TB external drives. Card installed easily, was recognized by Windows directly, and worked flawlessly as soon as I put in the two drives. Like most 400/800 cards, if you plug any 400 speed devices in, all the ports then go to 400 speed. In my case, that wasn't an issue, and measured throughput is near the top of what you'd expect even with both drives going.

Great product, easy installation, do the job. Jul 14, 2008
By E. Edni I have 7 external HD connected to my PowerMAC dual 2.7, connecting all of the to a single 800 firewire was a nightmare. With this card everything works as it should and I get to use the fastest speed.
Driver setting was difficult Jan 11, 2012
By ielemi You have to go through the device manager to install the driver.
It must have been my old bios. I had difficult time having the port right the first time.
Whatever you do if you have to actually go to[...] to download the driver, don't execute the driver file from the folder view from the window. Do it by the way of device manager, than it would work fine. If you need it finding the driver is easy to find and is not too heavy download.
Before installing the driver the correct way, speed had a lot of latency as if it had extra heavy weight on its transfer as it took hours to transfer a hundred or so of GB of file.
I cannot stress (if you need it) enough about going through device manager to install the driver, as if you do it by the way of executing the driver file, the chance is you are going to get the old "BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH." It could fatally damage your OS and computer.
Now I am happy that my computer and OS is in healthy condition with no yellow exclamation mark next to fire-wire ports (two of them for each sets) in the device manager.
I will update the transfer rate at a later time.
