For the price, this can't be beat for a HTPC! Nov 17, 2010
By H. Robinson There are a ton of Windows remotes out there and if you want every button tin the world on your remote, this may not be for you. But if you are looking for a straight forward remote that is customizable for several different applications and doesn't cost a lot, I think this is a great choice. It even allows you to do some unexpected but useful things like schedule times for the PC to power down each day through the software that runs the remote.
The separate media player software works well to play files across a home network and has played just about every file type I had available but has a small annoyance in that it needs to scan a directory before it can play media in it - a small issue for small directory but takes a long time (2 hours-ish)for very large (500MB or larger) directories.
There were several updates to the software since my original installation so it seems they have been active in improving the software since the version included in the box, but I actually use the remote more for controlling Boxee than I do for the media player software that came with the remote. I already bought a second for my next planned HTPC.
It's ok, but don't expect to turn your computer on with it. Dec 31, 2010

"When nothing is left in your bag of trix. Silly rabbit!"
The device does what it says and it is a nice little device for controlling media center or the media center like software that comes with it. Unfortunately it can't be used to turn the computer on. I think you can set it to wake it from sleep though. The function on the controller can be ported over to a Logitech harmony remote if you want.
Pros: - Does as advertized - Comes with a decent media center like program
Cons: - No way to turn on pc - Clip for monitor is barely useful. - competes for space on the monitor with a webcam
I have had this a while now and can say that there are better options for controlling a home theater pc than this. It gets old quick and makes me wish I had bought something that allows me to power on my computer and shut it down like a VCR, DVD player, AV receiver, cable box, DVR, and any other remotely controlled device I might want under my TV. I would like to control everything with my Harmony remote and having to get up to press the power button is burning my precious calories.

Useful. Apr 10, 2009
By Martha S. Knapp The response time is a bit slow but other than that it's a useful accessory to have, especially when you are across the room most of the time.
