4Too fancy but works well  Aug 28, 2004
By Arthur Kimes
I don't need all the pretty lights and glowing cables. But I did need a good power supply and this fit the bill. Previous noname supply was making my computer crash all the time. This Aspire solved that problem.
I could tell the old supply was going bad because the voltage readings were off by over 5%. The Aspire's readings are all within 1% - that gives me some confidence.
I like the twin ball bearing fans and being able to adjust the speed keeps it fairly quiet except on real hot days - and on those days I have the other computer fans turned way up so the extra noise from increasing the power supply's fans isn't even audible.

update. 3 months later I have a fried motherboard which may have been caused by this power supply. It's hard to say since I have no way to test it but I did have to get another (different!) power supply. New power supply, motherboard and memory. expensive. I can't trust this Aspire supply anymore. If I could change the star rating it would be a 1 or 2. (a 2 only because I'm not SURE the power supply was at fault).

4Looks and works great  Nov 17, 2008
By M. Jobbagy "Follow Your Bliss - Joseph Cambell"
I've had this for well over a year now, and it's still kicking. The variable speed fan is nice, during the cooler winter months I can turn it down, and in the hot summer I can crank it up for maximum efficiency.

One minor issue, the leds in the fan stopped working at some point, I'm not sure when since I have a number of other fans in the case that also have blue leds, so there was always blue light in the case. I have a window in the side so it's nice to have the glowing cables etc. I just noticed it the other day when I was replacing a hard disk and was running it with the side off and looking around in there.

I would buy again, probably a higher output unit next time, since each year we seem to need more and more stuff with more power required.

4Decent Power Supply  Nov 08, 2011
By TPJR
Had enough power and plenty of connections to put a mid-level system together. Lasted almost two years before it blew. For the money its a worthy product. 500W isn't fantastic, but for most builds is sufficient.

1Worked For about 2 months  Apr 26, 2011
By Big Daddy
This power supply came with the Aspire alien case I bought. This box had everything and was fairly easy to hookup... After about 2 months of using this for maybe 20 hours a week My PC would not power up anymore. Upon pressing the power button, all the fans would turn for a split second and then lose all power. The LED on the motherboard showed that there was power coming to it so I figured maybe it just had too much hooked up to it. I removed all power to all devices except the motherboard and it still did the same thing. Then I threw in a 300Watt power supply and it powered right up. For the amount of money I paid for this case and the so called 500 watt power supply I expected it to last longer than 200 hours. Now I gotta find a replacement. Thanks for a P.O.S. and many hours wasted diagnosing the problem Aspire. Never again!

2Decent power; decent bling; poorly moulded connectors  Feb 05, 2011
By Stephen Foster
I put this in a box I'm building for my son, because he wants plenty of bling. Mission accomplished. It's a regular power supply, fairly quiet, good specs, but you can choose three different colours for it to glow. An extra nice touch is that the cables and connectors are UV-sensitive ("glow-in-the-dark") so I added a couple of UV strip lights inside the case (case also by Aspire). The result looks exactly like something out of a 1950s Science Fiction film. Given that the box is also loaded for BEAR, when I get it out to him his friends will simply die.

Nice, nonsense features: you can choose between three different colours for it to glow.

Not-so-nice features: you can adjust the fan speed, but purely manually: that is SO 20th Century.

Why two stars? The cables are fairly stiff, making them difficult to route. Much worse: the plastic connector mouldings are poorly made, could almost be described as misshaped. I wasted a lot of time diagnosing an SSD boot drive that the motherboard claimed was not there; the power connector had slipped out but still looked correct. Before shipping it to my son, I'm going to cinch the power connectors to the drives with cable ties: hardly the sort of thing you want in a computer with lots of lights and a large window.
