Not a real PTZ, software lacking Jul 16, 2010

"Power User"
I gave it 4 stars because it's a good image and novel idea, but I'm not completely happy because they tried to sell me an EXPENSIVE software application to be able to really use/record with it properly. I'm in a Computer Sciences School at a major University and spend time checking things out before buying...felt like a was kind of bait and switch based on the information I was able to find on the internet. I'm not referring to Amazon's description, which is weak, but their web site and others.
The "optical PTZ" is pretty neat, and it feels sturdy in my hands...so they get 4 stars.
For a "home/small business" security solution, I'd recommend something more "turn-key". I've used the Swann and Q-See products with success, and will write a review about another "turn-key" system I bought on Amazon that works well pretty soon.
This is a nice camera, if you want to spend a lot of time programming or a lot of money for more software. Don't forget...you have to store the data (recordings) somewhere, too!
