5This USB Parallel works great for printing capability!!!  Jun 12, 2010
By T. D. Orsini
This USB Parallel printer cable worked great for my HP PSC 500 printer. The cable connects to the male DB25 original cable that HP provided and then connects to the USB port on my new Windows 7 computer. The printing capability now works and I saved over $100 because I don't have to purchase a new printer.

1Not plug-n-play for Vista 64 bit system  Feb 21, 2009
By Ritz
Bought and returned this to TigerDirect. Pkg states it is plug-n-play and Vista compatible. After 5 hours...with Vista 64bit: Advanced options when booting (F8) lets you "disable driver signature enforcement", which you must do every time you reboot in order to install or USE this cable that has unsigned drivers (which Vista 64bit does not allow). The CD instructions have you download the driver from the microchip's website where you find more instructions. Admin control must be disabled to install or you can install as admin. et cetera. Five hours of this and my laptop will still not accept the driver. Thanks to another reviewer who warned us to be prepared for returns.

1If you want frustation, get this crap  Sep 09, 2009
By Humberto Sequeira "Solo"
Using Windows XP Pro SP3
- Installation runs smooth
- Creates an LPTx port (What I wanted)
- Printing a text file using notepad, will result in:
* Missing lines. One yes, the other no
* Seems some CR/LF cannot be printed, so next line continues on the same line and/or empty lines are not printed.
* Last line missing (printed on the next file you print)
* Driver update from Cablesdirect, is the same that comes with in the CD with the adapter, so don't bother.

Using it on a Point of Sale printer (Epson TM-U950P) it gets even worse.

So, this is a waste of time.
Seems there is no USB adapter that truly replicates a Parallel port on Windows. It is bad as most new PC's does not come with an integrated Parallel port.

I will try to see if I can tweak something else as I already tried the Status Poll and the Clock frequency to no avail.
Keep you posted.

Last update: Indeed if you are into Point of Sale (POS) hardware this is not for you. Parallel port cannot be emulated by USB. If you are into POS get a system with an integrated Parallel port or add PCI Parallel card.

Thanks for the great service and product. Prior to ordering from you, I had gone to 3 computer stores, with no luck. A waste of time. I should have looked on Amazon first!

1Don't buy if...  Feb 26, 2011
By Steven
I bought this adapter BEFORE I figured out that my old HP Lazerjet 2100, which performed well on my Old Windows XP, wouldn't run on my New Windows 7 Premium . I wasted about $31 because I didn't do the DO DILIGENCE and check first...just BE FOREWARNED! The adapter works just fine as far as conductivity etc. I only gave it 1 star to warn potential DUHS like myself.
