Great kit for the money May 01, 2009
By Robert C. I purchased this kit to finish some runs of RG6 quad prior to a FiOS TV install. I had never used compession f-connectors before. I must say that I was impressed with the results. The cutter is spring loaded, sharp with smooth action and it cuts cleanly. The stripper tool works perfectly - it was able to create clean, prepared cable ends, no problem. When using RG6 quad, it is important that you follow the instructions and fold back the outer braided shield, then score and peel the outer foil off and then fold back the inner braided shield before installing the f-connector. Along with the instructions, they include clear color photos of the steps involved and what your cable should look like (be sure to open the yellow cardboard back panel as it has more photos and instructions inside). The f-connectors included are of good quality and are made for RG6 quad. The compression tool could not work better. Once you have the cable end prepared, and you force the f-connector down the cable end to the proper depth, simply insert the end into the compression tool and squeeze. It easily finishes the compression process and the cable ends come out picture perfect professional. In fact, the FiOS TV installer commented on how good they looked and he was impressed with the kit. My bother wants to borrow it now. I would suspect that the people who are having issues with this kit are either not following the instructions, or are not mechanically inclined. Is this a kit for pros doing installs for a living? No, but close. The compression tool would pass for a pro tool and so would the cutter but you would need a better stripper tool for doing hundreds of installs. However, for a home user I would highly recommended this kit.

Great Tool for the Do-It-Yourselfer Jan 31, 2008
By J. Kikuchi I found that this bundle worked great with RG6-Quad cable. The stripper works great for making 2-level strips as long as you use it carefully and take your time. It's just plastic and the blade is very small, but it will do the job if you don't handle it roughly. The supplied compression connectors work fine with RG6-Quad and standard RG6 cable and the compression tool is a snap to use. About the only thing missing from this bundle is a flaring tool which would make installation of the cable into the connectors easier. If it had the flaring tool, I'd give it 5 stars.

Good but better for same money Jan 11, 2010
By L. Arthur So I ran off to Home Depot to buy this very thing. When I got there, I realized I could purchase the crimper individually and get the next model up which crimps RCA and BNC connectors in addition to RG-6 F connectors, so I did. Then I realized I could buy the next model up cable stripper individually which makes both cuts in a single pass, will strip CAT 5/6 cable, will also CUT cable and has an adjustable general purpose stripper all built-in. So the only thing you don't get are the included compression F connectors. So I picked up a package of 10 F connectors and the total cost was the same, but I have a better crimper, and a MUCH better cable stripper.
I ran home to try it all out. Sure enough, everything works great. When prepping RG-6 quad shield you do wish you had a flare tool. But the biggest discovery was the one step cable stripper not only work s GREAT, but the adjustable stripper in it is the perfect thing to run a second pass around to cut out the external FOIL shield. So what I do is run it around the cable as instructed to do the initial strip. Then I fold back the external braid shield. Then I put the cable into the stripper and adjust it to just barely score the external foil shield. You only have to spin it once to get this. Then the foil shield just peels away. Some foil is easy to remove and some isn't. I had some RCA brand cable which is great cable but the foil is tuff stuff. This did the trick. Foil gone, fold back second braid shield and crimp on the connector. Works great!

Solid Product Mar 26, 2008
By T. Anderson This product performs very well. The cable stripper works just fine. The compression crimper works perfectly. The hardest part of the job is peeling back the shield and shoving the connector onto the cable. The rest of the task is painless using this set.

Less Expensive at Home Depot - with case included! Dec 03, 2010
By Chuck My wife was contemplating moving the TV to a corner without a cable jack. She didn't like the thought of running a length of RG-6 across the floor even if it was along the baseboard (women!). I had fancied the thought of the Ideal Omniseal F Connector Compression Tool after seeing it in Lowe's. Then I found this kit on Amazon that evening while figuring out everything I needed to install another jack. The Ideal omniseal tool costs more than this entire kit and had 10 f-type connectors included. I thought, hmmm, I wonder what the quality of this set is. So, I went to Home Depot to be a diligent shopper and to see what other brands they might have. I found this same set at Home Depot in a nice plastic case for only $34.95. Even with tax, it turned out to be less expensive than Amazon and had a nice case (with a cheap plastic molded insert) to hold all the tools and connectors. As for the quality, it is comparable to this ideal set that I saw in Lowe's: Ideal 3PC Installers Compression Kit. After making my first cable, my assessment is that the cable cutters are good, the compression tool is good, and the coax stripper is good-enough. The coax stripper is a little cheaper quality than the one in the Ideal 3PC Installers Kit. If I was going to use this kit more frequently, I would probably use this coax stripper until it died, then look for a better quality replacement. So, I took away one star for the inferior quality of the stripping tool since it won't let me take half a star. I really like the idea of it being in it's own case to keep the coax tools together instead of mixed in with my other miscellaneous specialty tools. After looking around town, this kit is the best value. I would recommend buying this kit unless you just have to have the best tools. My rating: 4.5 stars.
