1sloooow trackball  Oct 29, 2008
By Annie "Amazon Consumer"
I bought this to use the trackball mouse in presentations because I go between web pages and powerpoint and wanted to do some mouse navigation. I also have a logitech trackman trackball desktop mouse and that uses standard Microsoft drivers. The Logitech trackball speed follows the pointer speed setting in the Mocrosoft mouse settings. I have it set on the fastest setting and love it that way so I can get across a screen with minimal rolling of the ball.
Unfortunately this trackball does not follow the Microsoft pointer settings at all and iogear's mouse configuation tools do not include a trackball speed setting and it tracks soooo slooooow. I had to roll the ball 360 degrees several times to get the cursor across one screen view of a web page! It was ridiculous. I verified with iogeear support that the trackball speed is hard-coded. What good is a trackball that can't be configured to a person's speed preference??? Total bummer. It was returned.
It was also touch-and-go on the connection, laser pointer and the charging light didn't work. A half-baked implementation of a very nice concept and nice looking product.

1UPDATE: NO "RIGHT CLICK BUTTON" when using as track ball.  Mar 21, 2010
By jon123
NEW UPDATE: FOUND BEST PRODUCT. LENOVO "Mini Wireless Keyboard" model N5901. $39.00 if you can get a deal (usually via [...] or [...] ... or any deal site. Often goes on sale. Recently $36 with free shipping.

DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT AT ANY PRICE. I LOVE THE LENEVO. (it has one fault, no back light on keyboard, but trackball is great!)

UPDATED: CONFIRMED WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE:
DIRECTLY FROM: [...]
"In presentation mode the right click is disabled. This is how the device function in presentation mode.
Thanks,
Service Support"
ALMOST WORTHLESS WITHOUT A RIGHT CLICK.

W A R N I N G ! !
CAUSES 'BLUE SCREEN CRASH' ON WINDOWS VISTA BASIC - I have never before had a 'blue screen' total crash using Windows Vista Basic (I thought it actually had been removed from the way Windows operates)

THIS IOGEAR HAS WORKED (without a right click) for a while, BUT FOR NO REASON STOPPED WORKING AND CAUSED A TOTAL BLUE SCREEN CRASH AND SYSTEM REBOOT!

IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME 4 TIMES AND I AM NEVER GOING TO EVEN TRY USING THIS HORRIBLE PRODUCT WITH MY COMPUTER.

DO NOT BUY!

1Junk  Aug 09, 2008
By A. Margulis "ProAdvisor"
The idea for this gadget is good, but the execution is poor.
Right out of the box, it didn't work right. The trackball on top only registers up and left. If you try to move the mouse down or the the right it doesn't work.
Then I found other websites with poor reviews about this product, so I returned for a refund.

1Bummed.  Jun 02, 2011

* No right-click when using the track ball
* Poor battery life/no auto shut-off
* on/off : mouse : presentation switch difficult to use.

It would be great if it had the features of a USB mouse, but whit the current design.

1What a terrible device....  Feb 25, 2011
By Jeremy Alan Bell
I am a professional corporate educator and this is the worst device I have ever used. I will never buy another IOGear product as long as I live. This thing has a laundry list of problems.

1. It does not utilize a dongle for communication with the computer it uses a large base/cord combination. It is a bit ridiculous. I travel for a living, as many corporate educators do, and this device does me no favors. It did not come with a case or any way to pack it. Absolutely horrible design, yet I could forgive that if... it had a right click button.

2. The missing right click button. I need to be able to right click while doing my demonstrations in class. It was not till I paid for the device that I realized that it does not have a right click button. I should have taken it back right then and there, but I thought maybe it was configurable, which brings me to my next problem.
(When I spoke to the gentleman from customer support regarding this issue I was basically told that I should have read the package more carefully and that it was my own fault.)

3. No software... Although plug and play devices typically are a good thing. In this case having a little bit of software might have been a good thing. There is no way to change the speed of the trackball, there is no way to configure the buttons. It is as if IOGear sought out to make the worst possible device. In addition, the ergonomics of the thing are not good. Thats OK though, because no one that buys one will use it for anything more than a paper weight.

4. The switch on the bottom of the mouse. I have a hard time turning this thing on, much less using it. It was as if they asked there supplier "What is the smallest possible selector switch you have and the largest possible USB to rf receiver".

5. Rechargable batteries... I know they are good for the planet and all but I hate the fact that this thing has a rechargable battery. I want a device with a nice AA battery. When I am in the middle of teaching something I don't want to have to stop what I am doing because the battery is dead and it has to go on its cradle to charge. I taught for an hour holding the cradle in my left hand and trying to operate the device with my right. What a horrible experience.

In closing, I would discourage anyone from buying this product. It is poorly thoughtout ergonomically, functions poorly and lacks necessary features.
