 Be sure to ask vendor if genuine Lenovo or "aftermarket" Mar 30, 2011

Even though this item is described as "Lenovo 40Y8725 Thinkpad Serial ATA Hard Drive Bay Adapter" and Lenovo as listed as the manufacturer, the one I got from one of the Marketplace vendors was not genuine Lenovo but an aftermarket imitation. If you are content with an aftermarket imitation of this part, you can get one for under $20 on eBay. It's difficult to find genuine Lenovo-made SATA hard drive caddies like this one, as I believe the original part has been discontinued. The two aftermarket imitations I've examined were substandard in construction. Particulary crummy is the plastic snap-to-secure piece, which is supposed to keep the hard drive from slipping around in the caddy. Through patient searching over a week or so, I was able to find an original part on eBay. But, wherever you buy one, ask the vendor if it's genuine Lenovo or not.

 Wonderful alternative for a multiple OS laptop May 17, 2009

First off, the drive is completely Hot Swappable if you are using Windows Vista. In other words, I can be surfing the web and decide I would like to plug in my lenovo hdd ultrabay and all i have to do is pull out the cd drive and pop it right in. And vice versa if I decide I wanted to take it out.
Second, I bought the drive so that I could have two seperate operating systems on my laptop. I had done this before with a single hard drive but it was a pain having two seperate partitions on one hard drive. The Lenovo ultrabay hdd adapter made it so that I could have two seperate OS' installed on two seperate hard drives and I could easily choose which to boot up. This is why I bought the adapter and it works flawlessly for this purpose. 5 stars, no question.

I bought similar product from ebay and it did not work properly. I had issues like drive disappering from windows disk manager and explorer and putting data in Ultrabay drive was a risk as when I am in front of customer, it would be embarrasing to lose access to important data.
After I bought this from amazon, I had 0 issues. The product is rock solid and I did not lose the drive single time after installation.
If you are going to buy this item, make sure it is correct part for your laptop. I made absolutely sure it is correct part for my particular laptop model from lenovo.

Does what it says on the box, and easier than 1-2-3 to install.
Your old Lenovo CD/DVD drive slides right out, with no tools required, you then clip a new/second hard drive into this bay, then slide the bay into where the CD/DVD drive once was, again no tools required - and there you are! ready to go!
All you have to do then is go to the Disk Manager within Windows and initilize/format the new disk.
Excellent product, i love having the second chunk of drive space on my laptop, comes in very handy.
