Decent product with a few flaws Apr 16, 2012
By Benjamin H. Rose

I work in a home office and have used the headset to make calls, listen to music, and play online games in the evenings for about 2 years now. I wear this headset sometimes more than 8 hours a day. It is extremely comfortable despite my large head and glasses. This was one of my main concerns, as I have owned several headsets and headphones over the years, and they have all been uncomfortable, if not impossible, to wear longer than half an hour. Not this headset. It also has great sound quality using the provided USB sound card on my 2010 iMac--better than the on-board sound for sure.
It does have a few flaws, however. Flaw #1: The microphone rotates up and down but will no longer stay in the upright position on its own. From having read other reviews, I knew to expect this and wasn't surprised. You may as well plan on this happening to you. I use a twist-tie to keep it out of the way--it's easy to quickly lower the mic when I need to answer the phone and then hook it back in the upright position when done. Flaw #2: The USB soundcard is about 3 inches long and juts directly out from the port. It has a cheap plastic case that was quickly cracked when one of my kids tripped on the cord. Now it sits loosely in the USB port and the sound goes in and out anytime the desk or cord gets jiggled. Very frustrating, but unlikely to be a problem if you're more careful than I was.
This is a good headset if you can deal with those two flaws. One other thing to mention for Mac users. The Mac OS, from Tiger through Lion, has a bug that will cause your voice to turn into an unintelligible and staticky robot voice if you talk for a certain amount of time. It seems to vary for different people. For me, it's almost exactly one hour. It's a bug that occurs with all USB headsets when used with Macs and is something to be aware of if you're a Mac owner.

recomend Dec 07, 2009
By Brian Benton The quality of the sound coming through this head set is great. The volume controls on the set work well too. I love that fact that it has it's own sound card that you plug into a USB port. That means I can use it on any computer and expect the same sound. I can also use it on a PS3 and other devices that have a USB port. My only complaint is that I can't lock the mic in an up position. It hangs there in front of my mouth all of the time. It concerns me too when I set it down because if set the wrong way, I'm afraid the mic will break off. I would want the mic to be able to be locked up so it is out of the way.
Nice sound, cord plug in is problematic/ cord construction quality :TRASH Feb 02, 2012

This is my 2nd Plantronics head set purchase , same model.
I lost the microphone plugiin attachment to the headset cord, probably through my own carelessness.(After 2 years) The cord separated from the jack.
However ,after ordering a replacement for it, the cord/jack plug had the a major tear/uncovering of the insulation, after less than 3 months light and careful use. Unfortunately my wife showed me it exactly 2 days after the Amazon return policy expired.
Perhaps I've been unlucky with Plantronics (She also has a Bluetooth cellphone earpiece, which works great after 2 years, although the earpiece switch split after 6 months..though still useable)..I feel that Plantronics makes great audio products (quality of sound) but the workmanship on the more prosaic aspects of their products needs better quality control.
My last Plantronics product purchase. Pity..since I rate the overall quality of the "acoustics" delivered as superior.
5/17/2012: Having found further small breaks in the cable (wires showing) with minimal/no use, can not recommend this product at all. I now think that the coating of the wires themselves is defective, and breaks down/crack with time. Steer Clear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Eww heavy Jan 19, 2012

I thought this was way too heavy to wear for extended times. I did like the feel of the ear cups, very soft. The headband was also nice but I noticed after a couple of hours, my head hurt from the weight. As far as sound goes, it was okay at best. Not great, not bad. On Windows 7, the software that was installed was CMedia. I expected better sound tbh.

Great value at the right price Apr 17, 2010

There are three things that make for a great headset: obviously, the most important is the sound quality, followed by comfort and then solid construction.
Several times a year, this headset goes on sale at a price under $20, with shipping included. When it does, I suggest you buy several. You won't be disappointed.
This headset is good enough to be used for speech recognition software and this review is being written on my iMac, with MacSpeech Dictate...a perfect combination.
