5It works as expected  Jun 07, 2009
By Richard von Glahn "Rick"
I've been using this speedlight as part of a Nikon CLS operation with a D700 operating as the master flash (fill) controlling one SB900, and this SB-R200. So far, it's all been portrait work. I'm using the 200 as a back, highlight flash. What's to say? It works well for a close in flash. It is always sitting within 10 feet of its target and I get reliable illumination on every shot. It integrates well with CLS allowing me to control output from the camera.

3Buy SB-600 instead  Nov 18, 2008
By Hany A. Nagaty
I originally bought this to use it with my D60 and SB-800, with the aim to control lighting and place in in different directions ...etc. After I bought it I discovered it's more suited to Macro photography (with the help of additional accessories).
I should have bought the SB-600 instead, the price difference is relatively minor and it has the below added benefits
1- It will work wireless, and on the camera if I want to
2- It has higher guide number
3- It has and faster recharge time I guess (not really sure of this).
4- Uses normal AA batteries, and you can use rechargeable ones. The Sb-R200 uses CR1234A batteries, which are expensive and not rechargable.

4This unit regulates itself well.  Feb 16, 2009
By J. Rogers
When it comes to macro photography the SB-R200 can really get the job done and save a lot of time. Most of the time the lighting is within the acceptable range without having to make to many adjustments. But I have had a LOT of battery problems. Cheap batterys pretty much do not work at all, and the good batterys do not seem to last very long. I am left with the impression that if the battery drops below full power then the unit just shuts down and turns itself off. The cheap CR123A batterys do not maintain a high enough power level to get the job done. This flash does a very good job of lighting up the object. I can control the light level on the camera and also by how direct I point the master flash. So it is fast and fairly easy to get the right amount of light evenly distributed. They save time to get the best photo as soon as possible.

5Perfect as accesory lights  Apr 15, 2008
By Jose Sanabria "Joe Image Hunter"
I own a Nikon D200 wich I use when I need light with a Nikon sb-800. Recently I bought 2 units of the SB-R200 and they work perfectly together. It is very friendly to use and It allows to create multiple lighting conditions.
