Satisfied with product recieved but poorly documented and customer support terrible Aug 13, 2010
By Mr. W I bought four of these units to support my multiple devices from my POE switch. 3 devices are Trendnet TV-IP410 cameras which I thought would be compatible right out of the box. Of course, I was in a hurry and in the process of moving so I didn't check for compatibility. I assumed that all Trendnet products have the same DC power plug sizes. We all know what happens when you assume so I won't go into that. Anyway, I get the units and try to finish my installation only to find that they won't work. So I look on the back of the paper manual that was supplied and see "TENDnet Technical Support US*Canada" to see they have listed 24/7 Tech support, but NO PHONE NUMBER! Great, so I'm rushed into setting up my modem so I can look up their phone number. I call tech support and their auto answer service is so quiet that I have to crank up my phone speaker to hear the lady then when I'm switched I get blasted in the ear. The tech support person either had learning disabilities, didn't care to help me, or was trained as a brick layer and somehow got a job in a phone call center. It took me over 30 minutes and being put on hold three different times to get him to understand that my problem was that the DC power plug cable provided does not fit in my IP410 camera. Before I had to explain it for the last time he told me that I would have to use a power injector. I had already explained to him that the IP410 was not POE compatible prior to that. I then explained to him what the function of a POE splitter was. Finally he understood what my problem was and then put me on hold one last time then told me that I had to buy a different product. The product he told me to buy doesn't exist, TPE 110S. I ended the call telling him that I was at a loss for words. Never have I experienced such unprofessional technical support. On my own and in less than five minutes I found a manufactured product that will achieve my desired compatibility. I purchased six 5.5mm to 3.5mm Jumper Cables, TV-JC35, directly from Trendnet's website for $3 apiece.
Just so everyone understands a POE splitter is not an injector. Amazon should allow the community to cross examine tags so that products are not improperly labeled. A POE splitter allows a DC powered networked device that is not POE compatible to be powered by separating the power and data from the input POE signal to individual power and data signals. This allows for freedom from AC power adapters that can restrict installation, pose a security risk, be unsightly, not provide battery backup, etc.
Pros: Affordable Compatible voltage range from 5, 7.5, 9, and 12 Volts Gigabit and backwards compatible
Cons: Output data cable hardwired into unit Out of box not compatible with all Trendnet devices. Eg. IP camera TV-IP410 Relatively poor documentation in areas that matter such as compatibility and tech support contact information.
Lastly, Why doesn't Amazon post the same specifications like those found on the box? It wouldn't have helped in my case, but they should be there for computer and network components and such since there is so much involved in compatibility that could impact someone out there looking to buy.

I purchased this item to supply power to a video surveillance camera. I already have a Cisco power over Ethernet switch, so the backend work was done. I just attached the Trendnet device as shown in the manual and it worked perfectly, supplying power to the camera and a network connection - all on one cable. They even included pigtails with various size connectors so you can find a match for your equipment.
The only thing you have to be careful of is the current requirements of your equipment. The Trendnet device provides different available current at different voltages (which are selectable on the device - another plus!). Be sure you don't need more current than the device can supply and you'll be very happy with it.
Works as advertised. Feb 25, 2012
By foss I bought two of these and hooked them up to a couple of IP cameras I had and a PoE switch. They work great.
It comes with two power cables (for your non PoE device), one for 2.0 and another for 2.5 amps, both with the same connectors. You can select your voltage on the side with a switch.
They fit fine but my TrendNet IP Camera with PTZ would not work since the power connector was smaller than my other cameras. I believe if I got a cable with the correct size connector however it would work, since the PoE splitter can output 12V which is what that camera requires, but check to make sure the devices you want to use with this have the correct size power plug since it only comes with the one size.

Excellent product, using it to power a DAP-1522. Links up @ 1gbps, and provides a way for me to remotely cycle the power on the device, even if I can't get into the management webpage.
POE splitter that just works. Dec 04, 2010

I have used Trendnet splitters for years and they are simple to use and they have been very reliable. This unit continues the success I have had with Trendnet splitters. Remember to read the specs to know what you are getting.
